INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (KCRG) - Teenagers and young adults are drinking more energy drinks than ever before.
And Independence Junior/Senior High School said it’s concerned enough that it’s sending kids to the nurse if they’re seen with one.
The Independence Community School District made a post to Facebook noting a police change this school year.
The post said the district had seen an uptick in students drinking multiple energy drinks each day and that the drinks are detrimental to a student’s health and ability to focus.
TV9 talked to a doctor in Cedar Rapids who said while caffeine can improve focus, in high doses it can be dangerous.
“If you consume too much caffeine, it can cause a lot of excitation, agitation. It can cause your heart rate to go really fast,” Dr. Ryan Sundermann, Unit
