SACO, Maine — Kevin Fitzpatrick started his yearly fundraiser on Wednesday with camping on the roof of Patriot Subaru in Saco to raise money for an organization that helps tweens, teens, and young adults with developmental challenges.
Fitzpatrick is the program director for STRIVE U, a residential program where people gain work experience in areas that are not traditionally open to people with developmental disabilities . STRIVE also provides extensive job preparation and training to complement the work experience.
Each year, Fitzpatrick hunkers down in his tent, waiting for people to donate . This is the thirteenth year, and Fitzpatrick is trying to raise $85,000 for the program. He said STRIVE's programming fills gaps that state programs or local programs cannot or do not provide.
