FITCHBURG, Wis. - Changes may be on the way to the City of Fitchburg’s police dispatch center.
The city is one of the fastest-growing in the Madison metro area. T he population has grown by over 10,000 residents since 2013 and that growth has put a strain on the city’s dispatch center.
" To communicate via dispatch, the police department runs 24/7, 365 days a year. Running dispatch services through the city of Fitchburg was a challenge in itself. And being able to manage that 24/7," says Fitchburg Police Chief, Alfonso Morales.
In the next city council meeting, Fitchburg common council will vote on whether or not to eliminate the city’s dispatch center, shifting the job to the county who’s already been helping the city’s 4 full time dispatchers.
