AFL premiership coach Mick Malthouse has reportedly suffered minor injuries while chasing away home invaders from his apartment.

Malthouse, 72, who now commentates for ABC Sport, was reportedly in his apartment when two men entered around 12:30am on Thursday.

"Officers were called to the property following reports of a group of men trying to gain access about 12.30am," a police statement said.

"A resident of the property chased the offenders to a nearby laneway, where he was assaulted.

"The offenders fled on foot."

Malthouse won three premierships as a coach, leading West Coast to their first two crowns in 1992 and 1994, then securing Collingwood a flag in 2010. Loading
