PHOENIX — Matted fur, paws covered in feces and urine, and possibly malnourished, the 71 dogs found in "deplorable conditions" at a Litchfield Park home are now adjusting to their new home inside the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office 'MASH' Unit.

"They had feces and urine in their nails," Detective David Evans with MCSO's Animal Crimes Unit said.

Evans was one of the detectives on the scene on Tuesday. He said their department received a tip about the animals last week and had been working nonstop through the Labor Day weekend to obtain a search warrant for the property.

On Tuesday morning, officers went to the home to try and speak with the owner, but said they were turned away.
