WALBRIDGE, Ohio — Walbridge leaders said they are reviewing how the village hires police officers after two recent firings exposed gaps in oversight.
Body camera video obtained by WTOL 11 from Aug. 23 shows former Walbridge police officer Michael Ervin responding to a call after residents reported suspicious activity. The same residents later called dispatch again, stating Ervin appeared intoxicated during the initial response.
Mayor Ed Kolanko told WTOL 11 that Ervin’s blood alcohol level tested at 0.168%, more than twice the legal limit. He was fired two days later and now faces multiple misdemeanor charges.
Ervin isn't the only officer forced out of the department in the past year. Former officer Austin Sabo was fired in November 2024, and is now being charged in Ottawa County wit
