FORT MADISON (WGEM) - One of the largest rodeos in the nation gets underway Wednesday night in Lee County, Iowa.

The 77th annual Tri-State Rodeo will showcase several of the world’s most talented horsemen. Organizers said there are four exciting rodeos Wednesday night through Saturday, Sept. 6.

“The best of the best are here,” said Gary Gleichman, the rodeo’s promotion and media chairman. “Over the next four days, we’re going to be giving away $220,000. That’s huge prize money for a rodeo of our size.”

After the rodeo, award-winning country artist Nate Smith will headline the show, followed by other live music.

“He had some vocal issues early on,” Gleichman said. “He saved his voice to come and perform for us tonight. We expect a great show from him.”
