WASHINGTON — The Powerball jackpot is nearing record territory, soaring to $1.7 billion after nobody won the grand prize on Wednesday night.

Wednesday's drawing was for an estimated $1.4 billion, or a $654.3 million cash payout. Although nobody won the grand prize, there were over a dozen new millionaires who matched all five white balls.

Tickets sold in Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Ohio, Pennsylvania and a pair in each California and Georgia all won $1 million off of Wednesday's drawing.

Four additional tickets, sold in Michigan, Oregon, Texas and Wyoming, each won $2 million after also selecting the Power Play option.

The Powerball jackpot is now the third-largest prize in the game's history. There have been over 40 consecutive drawings without anyone matching
