U.S. Rep. Jodey Arrington is celebrating the cancellation of plans to expand the Muleshoe National Wildlife Refuge, calling it a win for private property rights.

In reality, it’s a setback for Texans who love nature, landowners, wildlife and the prairies that define the region.

The proposed expansion was no “federal land grab.” It was a plan developed over 15 years, across Republican and Democratic administrations, to set up a system where the Fish and Wildlife Service could work with the surrounding community to slowly expand protected habitat.
