A councillor who has been campaigning for the city's street lights to be switched back on has said Coventry City Council has "seen sense". It was announced this week street lights are to be switched back on across Coventry after money saving measures left the city in darkness through the night.

Cllr George Duggins, leader of Coventry City Council , made the announcement at a meeting earlier this week, with a fall in electricity prices and new LED technology contributing to the decision. They are expected back on from 9 September .

Cllr Marcus Lapsa of the Westwood Ward has been an advocate for the move, particularly after a spate of burglaries and other late night crimes in the area.
