Members of Danville City Council expressed excitement about the more than 800 runners expected to come to the city this weekend to participate in its first-ever qualifying run for the Boston Marathon.

Also, the city manager warned residents that roads will be closed Saturday morning along the route for the 26.2-mile Three Sisters Marathon that day.

“People will be running in the streets and the streets will be blocked,” City Manager Ken Larking said toward the end of City Council’s meeting Tuesday night.

“It’s going to take some time to get folks through the streets,” he added.
