A Leicestershire rapist has finally been caught nearly two decades after his attack thanks to a DNA sample. Mahbubur Rahman, a former Loughborough taxi driver, was arrested in 2022 for an unrelated matter, and his DNA was taken. It was later found that it matched a previously unidentified sample collected in 2006.
Rahman, then aged 31, picked up a 19-year-old Loughborough University student on Saturday, October 7, 2006, after he encountered her in the street shortly after 2.15am. He stopped at a cash machine in Greenclose Lane, and then drove the young woman to George Deacon Court car park, in Chestnut Street, where he raped her in the back of his car.
