LANSING — Jessica Benavides went back to her old neighborhood for the first day of Lansing School District classes late last month.

She drove by the north Lansing home where she grew up as she made her way to Cumberland Elementary School.

The home on Edgebrook Drive is where her grandparents raised her. It's where she studied so she could work with children one day, either as a pediatrician or teacher.
