Hurricane Kiko , along with Hurricane Lorena, continues to spin in the Pacific Ocean. Kiko has strengthened into a major storm as it barrels toward Hawaii.

As of the 11 p.m. Hawaiian Standard Time advisory from the National Hurricane Center on Sept. 3 , Kiko is located about 1,720 miles east-southeast of Honolulu with maximum sustained winds near 145 mph with higher gusts, making it a Category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale.

Forecasters said little change in strength is forecast for Kiko during the next day or so, followed by gradual weakening beginning Friday, Sept. 5 through the weekend.

The NHC said Kiko is moving toward the west at around 8 mph, and this general motion is expected to continue through Thursday night, Sept. 4. A turn toward the west-northwes
