Classes were expected to resume at UMass Lowell on Thursday morning, the day after students watched as state and local police, the FBI, ATF, a SWAT team, drones and helicopters all descended on campus, after a person was reported with what appeared to be a gun on the first day of a new semester.

UMass Lowell classes and events were canceled Wednesday as members of the community were told to shelter in place after an unidentified man was seen walking with the alleged weapon outside the Riverview Suites residence hall just off Middlesex Street shortly before 2:30 p.m.
