BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — Police say a man was taken into custody after allegedly trying to lure kids into a vehicle at a Battle Creek library.

The Battle Creek Police Department said it responded to Willard Library, located on W. Van Buren Street near Capital Avenue NE, around 3:35 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a suspicious man, who was apparently trying to entice minor children to get into a car.

Police said the kids, alarmed by the situation, ran inside the library. That prompted library staff to call the police.

Officers found the suspect nearby, according to BCPD.

"After further investigation, a 67-year-old male subject from the Otsego area was taken into custody," the department wrote in a release.

The man was jailed for child enticement and attempted unlawful imprisonment,
