Summer isn’t quite over.

It’s this weekend’s championship series for the United Shore Professional Baseball League (USPBL powered by UWM) starting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Jimmy John’s Field in Utica that will close out a season of fun for many Michigan families.

“It’s been amazing,” said Andy Appleby, CEO and founder of the league he started 10 seasons ago. “Attendance has been really good, one of our best years ever despite some weather that hasn’t been good.”

This year also saw Eastside Diamond Hoppers pitcher Dugan Darnell called up to the Colorado Rockies, making him the seventh USPBL alum to be promoted to a Major League roster and the 53rd player to sign with an MLB organization.
