A tropical wave over the eastern tropical Atlantic will likely become the next named storm of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season as it becomes more organized, forecasters with the National Hurricane Center in Miami said Thursday.
Located hundreds of miles west-southwest of Cabo Verde as of 7 a.m., the disturbance is likely to form over the central tropical Atlantic later this week or the weekend, NHC forecasters said.
The wave is forecast to move west-northwest at 5 to 10 mph for the next few days before speeding up and going west or northwest by the middle of next week. It will take about a week for it to reach the Caribbean, the N ational Weather Service New Orleans said Wednesday night .
