A cop was bitten and left with a serious eye injury after being attacked by a wanted suspect .

The officer was trying to arrest a man who was wanted for failing to appear in court for theft offences.

Greater Manchester Police says the officer was assaulted at a property on Ridyard Street, in Wigan , at around 4pm yesterday.

The suspect fled the scene but was arrested a short time later.
