West Virginia is a Facebook state.

More than half of respondents, 54 percent, in the most recent edition of the MetroNews West Virginia Poll say Facebook is the social media platform they use most often.

Believe it or not, Facebook has veteran status among social media applications, launched 20 years ago. Facebook has a broad, large user base focused on connecting friends and family sharing text, images and videos.

Among other social media platforms, others lagged behind in West Virginia.

17% picked YouTube, the video sharing platform.

10% said TikTok, which specializes in short form videos.

4% said Instagram, which has photos and filters.

3% said X, formerly Twitter, which is a microblogging site known for quick news bursts, opinion and influence.
