In addition to hurting and killing multiple residents, last year's Hurricane Helene did devastating damage to Georgia's homes, businesses , and overall infrastructure. That's why more help is needed.

On Wednesday, FEMA announced $97 million for 138 state and local recovery projects. Georgia's share totals $78.4 million spread across the following organizations:

$37.1 million for emergency protective measures including repairs to damaged power lines, transformers, and distribution power systems. This is being done in the Augusta area including Richmond, Columbia, Burke, Jefferson, and McDuffie counties as well as Emanuel, Johnson, Washington, Warren, Glascock, and Jenkins counties.
