The attorney general for Washington, D.C. has sued the Trump administration over the deployment of National Guard troops throughout the city amid its crackdown on local crime.
Brian Schwalb, the city’s attorney general, said that by sending hundreds of troops into the nation’s capital, the administration has “run roughshod” over the longstanding tenet that the U.S. military should not be involved in domestic law enforcement.
“None of this is lawful,” he wrote in a lawsuit filed Thursday.
