More than £500,000 in unpaid fines issued to Aberdeen drivers for breaching low emission zone rules remain owed to the city council.

On June 1, 2024, a large section of the city centre was made off limits to older vehicles with greater emissions in a bid to improve the city's air quality.

Several major routes were included in the new LEZ, such as Union Street , College Street, Virginia Street, and the northern end of Holburn Street.

Drivers caught in non-compliant vehicles are handed a £60 fine, which is halved if paid within a fortnight of being issued.
