Another Fall sport is ready to kick off as the Emporia State women’s soccer team starts up tonight. The Hornets are coming off a year where they went 6-8-3 and barely missed the MIAA tournament after a loss in the final to Washburn.
The Hornets will travel to Springfield, Mo., to face the number 14-ranked Drury Panthers tonight and the number 25-ranked Maryville Saints on Sept. 6. The team returns five players who started in 10 matches last season, with the starting defense coming back for another go around. They also return leading scorers in junior Megan Jeremias and sophomore Megyn Mahloch, who both scored three times last season.
Head Coach Jane Grimley-Gunn understands that heading into these two matches, they are the underdogs but sees this opportunity as a win-win for the team.
