GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. — Two people are dead, and a man is facing multiple criminal charges after a police pursuit ended in a serious crash on Highway 55 on Thursday morning.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara says the incident began around 8 a.m. when squads responded to reports of a man with a gun near East Lake Street and Fourth Avenue South. That call was quickly updated to a carjacking in progress.

O'Hara said multiple 911 callers reported a man in a Maroon Ford Explorer operating recklessly, swerving, steering into oncoming traffic and even driving up onto sidewalks. Eventually, the chief says, the driver of that vehicle crashed, pulled a handgun and attempted to carjack a motorist at the stoplight.
