World-famous Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani has died at the age of 91.
Armani suits were the key fashion statement in menswear in the 1980s and 90s.
The billionaire’s roots were humble ones, starting out as a window dresser and sales clerk in Milan in the 1950s after a short military career.
He opened his first design office in the early 70s and presented his first collection of men’s ready-to-wear fashions under his own name in 1976. He’s also been credited with pioneering red-carpet fashion.
Armani also took a stand against the fashion industry’s impossible physical standards for models by being the first designer to ban models with a body mass index below 18.
Funeral arrangements are being made for this weekend in Milan.
