The Florida Gators were ranked second in our preseason rankings last week , won their opener by roughly eight touchdowns, and dropped two spots this week.

It’s not often extenuating circumstances come into play in so positive of a way, but that’s exactly what happened during the first full weekend of the 2025 season.

Florida State moved from third to second and South Florida moved from fifth to third due to huge — as in HUGE — wins over big-name opponents who may yet prove to have been overrated entering 2025.

For now, though, FSU over Alabama and USF routing Boise State is worthy of promotion.
