OCONEE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) -- A Westminster man remains in jail after he was arrested for trafficking methamphetamine during a traffic stop on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Oconee County Sheriff's Office, Steven Lee Hightower faces multiple charges, including possession of fentanyl and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

The arrest occurred when a deputy from the Pro-Active Criminal Enforcement (P.A.C.E.) team stopped a 2024 GMC Envoy displaying a tag registered to another vehicle while on routine patrol on Highway 24 near West-Oak High School.

Upon making contact with Hightower, the deputy was informed by him that there was marijuana inside the vehicle. A search revealed quantities of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, along with a firearm and ammuni
