Thousands of gamers have been unable to access online play this evening due to a significant outage affecting the PlayStation Network (PSN). Reports indicate that users have encountered various issues, including difficulties with gameplay and logging in. However, the predominant complaint revolves around the inability to connect to PSN servers, impacting over 120 million users globally who rely on the service for popular games such as Fortnite, Helldivers, and Rocket League.
The outage occurred just hours after the much-anticipated release of Hollow Knight: Silksong, a sequel to the critically acclaimed game Hollow Knight. The game, which has been in development for several years, was confirmed for release in a surprise announcement just days prior. Team Cherry, the game's developers, celebrated the launch, stating, "The hunt is on! Hollow Knight: Silksong is available now on all platforms, including day one on Xbox Game Pass!"
According to DownDetector, a service that tracks outages, over 90 per cent of the reports regarding PSN issues tonight have cited server problems. These server issues typically suggest that PlayStation consoles are struggling to connect to the central PSN network, leaving many gamers frustrated and unable to enjoy their newly released titles.
