A significant outage of the PlayStation Network (PSN) has left thousands of gamers unable to access online play this evening. The PSN, which serves over 120 million users globally, is essential for playing popular titles such as Fortnite, Helldivers, and Rocket League. Reports of issues began flooding in about an hour ago, with many users struggling to log in and connect to PSN servers.
Complaints have primarily centred around difficulties with gameplay and accessing friends lists. One user expressed frustration, stating, "Can't see friends nor party chat." Another added, "Can't connect to parties, says I have 0 friends but can get on games etc." A third user lamented, "Servers just went down. Can no longer join parties, send messages, and it says I have 0 PSN friends."
Despite the widespread reports, PlayStation's official monitoring page has not confirmed any server issues. Currently, services such as account management, gaming and social features, PlayStation video, PlayStation Store, and PlayStation Direct are all listed as operational.
The outage coincides with the recent release of Silksong, the highly anticipated sequel to the acclaimed game Hollow Knight. This release, which has been teased for years, was confirmed just days ago. Many gamers eager to play Silksong have expressed their disappointment, with one stating, "Just got home from a 13-hour shift ready to play Silksong and PSN is down. I can buy the game ok but just can't play it. Gotcha."
Reports indicate that over 5,000 complaints have been submitted regarding PSN issues in the last two hours alone. The outage follows similar disruptions experienced earlier by Nintendo and Steam, which began around 3 PM, coinciding with the Silksong launch.
As the situation develops, PlayStation support has reminded users with a PS5 that they can enable offline play, although no official comment has been made regarding the ongoing service issues. Gamers continue to voice their frustrations on social media, with many unable to access their games or connect with friends.
