NEAR WEST SIDE — Immigration and legal advocates remain on alert after two people were taken into custody this week by Immigration and Customs Enforcement at Cook County’s domestic violence court.
Agents with ICE took a male defendant into custody after his hearing Tuesday morning, and a woman was taken into custody Wednesday morning, according to a source with direct knowledge of both cases.
Tessa Kuipers, legal advocacy program director at Family Rescue, told reporters Wednesday morning that she saw at least four agents in plain clothes entering the courthouse at 555 W. Harrison St. around 8:45 a.m. that day.
The individuals declined to identify their agency, Kuipers said. Several wore gaiters around their necks, and one displayed an insignia that was not immediately recognizable.
