Body camera video released by the Kaufman County Constable’s Office on Thursday shows rescuers pulling three children and two women from a car accidentally driven into Lake Ray Hubbard.

Officials said Tuesday afternoon that a woman was teaching her nanny to drive when the nanny likely mistook the gas pedal for the brake, hopped a curb and then drove through high vegetation and into the lake.

Patrick Johnson, a retired Air Force veteran who lives in the Travis Ranch neighborhood, heard screaming and saw a white Mercedes sedan floating in the water.

“I could see the lady coming through the sunroof, getting on top of the car,” Johnson said. “I did not know that the kids were in there.”
