CALHOUN COUNTY, S.C. — The Trump administration is temporarily blocked from obtaining South Carolina voter information after a woman's lawsuit against the state's election commission.
A temporary restraining order was granted in the lawsuit on Tuesday, prohibiting the South Carolina Elections Commission (SCEC) from sending out requested voter information to the Department of Justice (DOJ). The lawsuit was filed on Friday, Aug. 29, in Calhoun County Court by South Carolina resident Anne Crook. Gov. Henry McMaster requested to join the lawsuit as a defendant in a Thursday filing.
The DOJ requested voter data from the SCEC in separate emails in August, according to the lawsuit. The request calls for the "full name, date of birth, residential address, his or her state driver's license number
