The Indiana Secured School Safety Board awarded just over $27.1 million in Secured School Safety Grants to nearly 495 schools and districts across the state, according to the Indiana Department of Homeland Security.
The matching-grant program provides funding to schools for school resource officers, equipment and technology, active event warning systems, firearm training for teachers and staff that choose to allow guns on school property, threat assessments and to implement student and parent support services programs.
Due to the total amount of funding requests exceeding the amount of funding for the program this year, priority was given to first-time applicant schools, according to IDHS. Charter school groups were capped at $100,000 in funding, while schools
