CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - Gov. Henry McMaster has submitted a filing to be included in the restraining order a South Carolina judge put on the Department of Justice’s request asking for voter information.
McMaster says he had no idea this restraining order was filed until yesterday.
The Department of Justice ordered various states earlier this summer, including South Carolina, to turn over the data of the 3.3 million voters in the state.
A Calhoun County voter sued the S.C. Election Commission, saying that this would violate her right of privacy under the Constitution.
This led to a circuit court judge ordering a temporary restraining order on handing over information.
In his filing, McMaster has asked to expedite his unopposed motion to intervene.
