In the past year of public engagement and design reassessment, the Sterling Safety Corridor Improvements Milepost (MP) 82.5 to 94 Project team has proposed a new hybrid highway design shaped by local feedback.
Public Involvement Lead Stephanie Queen says the proposed changes reflect a balance between safety and accessibility.
“When we kicked this off in June 2024, the state asked us to reassess earlier plans,” she said. “That led to a hybrid design — about two-thirds of the corridor will be a divided highway with a grassy median, while the remaining third will feature a five-lane highway with a center turn lane to maintain access to local businesses and driveways.”
The project’s first construction phase will be on the Sterling end and is scheduled to begin in summer 2026. Prime contract
