PEKIN ( 25News Now ) - An elderly Pekin man suspected in the death of his wife will remain in jail pending trial.
The state’s petition to deny pretrial release was granted in Tazewell County Court Thursday.
James Pate, who is listed as 93-years-old in online jail records, is accused in the murder of his wife, Cheryl Pate.
The autopsy on Cheryl Pate demonstrated that she suffered multiple sharp blunt force injuries, according to Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood.
In an affidavit of probable cause filed in Tazewell County Court, officers encountered James Pate on scene in the 1800 block of South 14th Street Tuesday, who appeared to have a significant amount of blood on him, and who allegedly admitted to officers that he had cut the throat of his wife.
