A twisted former surgeon who lied on national TV about why he had to have his legs amputated has been jailed over a half-a-million pound fraud . ‌

Neil Hopper appeared on ITV show This Morning where he claimed he lost his legs due to sepsis, saying he developed the life-threatening illness after a family camping trip. ‌

But the health battle he described on the daytime programme was actually part of an elaborate plot to pocket more than £466,000 by fraud - as he had actually caused the injuries himself . ‌

He has now been jailed for 32 months , after Truro Crown Court heard he had used dry ice to freeze his legs to an extent where they needed to be amputated.
