INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — A young musician's dreams were saved by the kindness of strangers.

A freak mishap ruined his expensive saxophone, and if not for a fundraising effort, a replacement instrument would have been out of his family's budget.

Van Horn High School sophomore student Chance Jensen loves the saxophone. He's a member of the school's bands, and he dreams of using music as a means of getting a college degree.

"It's the way it makes me feel; I feel extremely good with it," Jensen told FOX4 Thursday.

However, a sour note arose at Santa Caligon Days on Labor Day weekend in downtown Independence.
