SHREVEPORT, La. - The National Sweetheart Competition is an annual scholarship program hosted in Hoopeston, Ill. Its purpose is to give young women training and life experience on a national stage.

Louisiana Tech University student and Ruston native Anna-Katherine Thompson was crowned National Miss Sweetheart 2025 on Aug. 31.

Thompson is the third person to represent Louisiana and earn the national title. She says besides winning the title, one of her most memorable moments was singing "My Way" on a national stage.

She plans to finish her graduate degree in communications at Louisiana Tech, and she says she will graduate debt-free thanks to the scholarships awarded through competing in scholarship competitions, winning over $40,000.
