SHREVEPORT, La. – The process of how Caddo Parish commissioners vote at their meetings prompted brief discussion Thursday in response to new accusations of illegal voting in an amended lawsuit filed by the state attorney general.

Commissioner John Atkins asked parish attorney Donna Frazier about the “voice vote” issue that’s now been raised by Attorney General Liz Murrill. Atkins wanted to know if all votes cast over the past 10 years are going to be counted as “no.”

Frazier said an attorney general’s opinion dating to the 1980s allows electronic voting, “particularly like the system we have where everybody’s vote is recorded and people are able to see what meets the requirements of that.”
