MADISON/JANESVILLE (WKOW) – Union members gathered outside the State Capitol on Thursday, chanting for change at Mercyhealth.

The rally, which included elected officials and labor leaders, was a show of solidarity with Mercy Clinic East workers in Janesville who have been on strike since July 2.

"Through missed paychecks, through uncertainty, through sacrifice, we stayed united because our fight is about dignity, safety and respect," said Enrique Casiano, chairperson of UAW Local 95.

Speakers at the rally emphasized that the strike is not only about pay but also concerns about patient and employee safety within the clinic.

"If you believe a person should be paid fairly and believe that a person should be safe at work, then you are a union supporter," said Rep. Ann Roe (D-Janesville).
