SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Springfield City Council is embroiled in a debate over the source of drug paraphernalia found at Rebecca Johnson Park.

The controversy began when needles and other drug-related items were discovered at Rebecca Johnson Park, prompting concerns from local residents and school officials.

Councilor Malo Brown has accused the nearby Debra Hunt Prevention Center of contributing to the problem by distributing drug paraphernalia as part of its programs.

"In between those great things, they’ll squeeze in the fact that they’re providing needles and crack pipes," said Councilor Malo Brown, criticizing the center's practices.
