CINCINNATI —
Elwood Jones, who has spent 27 years on death row for the 1994 murder of Rhoda Nathan in a Blue Ash hotel, is closer to freedom after his conviction was overturned and an appeals court ruled against using prior witness testimony in a retrial.
Jones, arrested more than a year after Nathan's death, has consistently denied killing her, and his defense team called the recent ruling by the First District Court of Appeals a significant victory. Advertisement
"I said over and over, I feel sorry, but I'm a victim just like her. I did nothing. I did not hurt your mother or kill her. I was never in that room," Jones said.
Jones described his experience over the last 30 years as a ride with both good and bad days.
"It's a ride. Some days it's good. Some days it's bad," Jones said.
