SIGOURNEY, Iowa —

A Keokuk County man was sentenced to 15 years in prison nearly two years after a hayrack ride crash injured at least 13 children. The crash occurred on a gravel road in 2023, with about 30 kids aboard the ride.

Judge Daniel Wilson delivered the sentence Friday, emphasizing the gravity of the harm caused. " By your conduct, you let them down, " Wilson said during the hearing. The defendant, Daniel Brubaker, had pleaded guilty in July to 13 counts of child endangerment .

Parents of the injured children addressed Brubaker in court, sharing the lasting impact the crash has had on their families. Angela Snakenberg described the community's pain, saying, " That crash has not only deeply affected our family, but it has also left a scar on our community. "
