PORTLAND, Ore. — Multnomah County commissioners voted unanimously Thursday to pass an ordinance banning concealed guns from county buildings, a power granted by recently passed legislation now in effect.

Commissioners Shannon Singleton and Julia Brim-Edwards brought the ordinance forward for a vote.

“The presence of firearms in public buildings, even when carried by individuals with a concealed handgun license can undermine trust and feelings of safety, as well as increase the risk of accidental discharge, intimidation, or escalation during conflicts,” Singleton said in a statement.
