BC Ferries announced Thursday evening that one of its vessels was assisting in a marine rescue.
Just after 6:30 p.m., the company said the 5 p.m. sailing of the Spirit of British Columbia from Swartz Bay will be delayed arriving at Tsawwassen due to the rescue.
Ozzy Oliver, a passenger aboard the vessel, shared a video with CityNews on which two announcements can be heard:
“Be advised: person overboard,” and, “Man overboard. Port side.”
We are awaiting official confirmation and have reached out to BC Ferries and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre for more information.
This comes a day after an unrelated incident in which BC Ferries said rescue crews were called out to the waters near the Tsawwassen terminal after someone went overboard off the Spirit of Vancouver Island.
