LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

COVID-19 cases are on the rise in Louisville, and so are the levels of the virus in the city's wastewater.

According to the Kentucky Respiratory Disease Dashboard , there were 45 emergency department visits for COVID in June, 121 in July, and 647 in August. That was in Jefferson County alone.

Of the 647 that visited an emergency department in August, 164 were ages 0-4, 84 were ages 5-17, 223 were ages 18-44, 104 were ages 45-64, and 62 were 65 and older, according to the dashboard.

As for the COVID levels in wastewater, there are five sewersheds tracked by the Kentucky Wastewater Surveillance System.

Wastewater is water that has been used for domestic or industrial purposes, according to MSD.
