OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) - When a child is showing delays in development, getting support early can make a difference on outcomes.
But getting answers can mean driving for hours or long waiting lists. That’s why River Hills Community Health Center in Ottumwa is now offering autism evaluations.
Ashton and Ryan Buck travel from Oskaloosa to Iowa City to get their son, Dorian, treatment for his autism spectrum disorder.
“When we sent our son it was 8 hours a day 5 days a week," said Ashton.
“It’s still an hour drive and that’s just not feasible for a lot of people who have full-time jobs that they support their families with; that’s a big commitment,“ said Ashton.
But parents looking for answers now won’t have to go so far for that first step: an autism evaluation.
