MARION, Iowa (KCRG) - They work with a simple phrase in mind. No kid sleeps on the floor in our town.

“There’s a need out there that most people don’t realize,” said Mark Conzett, Sleep in Heavenly Peace chapter president.

Conzett has worked to build and deliver beds with Sleep in Heavenly Peace for 7 years.

In any given year, the nonprofit’s branch in Linn County expects to give between 400 and 500 beds away to families for free.

“Between 2 and 3% of the kids in any community are sleeping on the floor or without a bed of their own,” Conzett said.

Saturday the nonprofit built 50 beds, starting from a big pile of lumber to a fully fitted frame. 50 beds seems like a task that could take forever, but with a team of a couple dozen volunteers, the process moved like an assembly line.
